In addition, it provides the German business sector with support for public private partnership projects. Through exchange programmes, InWent also offers young people from Germany the opportunity to gain professional experience abroad.

The International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) is part of InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany, and was founded in 1962 to give young and upcoming journalists from developing and transitional countries the opportunity to enhance their knowledge in media industry.

The IIJ offers advanced training and dialogue for print and online journalists, as its aim is to strengthen freedom of expression in the partner countries of the German Development Cooperation and thus improve the conditions for democratisation, economic and social development.

The IIJ represents a key pillar in the media development work of the Federal Government of Germany and particularly of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The IIJ currently offers upto 40 training courses and dialogue programmes per year, which take place in Germany as well as in the partner countries and reach approximately 500 media workers. A high proportion of IIJ alumni hold senior positions in the media industry throughout the world.

The F.A.Z. is divided into different sections devoted to politics, business, financial markets and reviews. This structure helps readers locate information quickly and easily. The special pages and supplements that change every day enhance the newspaper’s wide content. The F.A.Z. has also been publishing its Sunday edition Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung since September 2001 with the most important topics of each past and forthcoming week.

In 10 full-colour fascicles, with many good photographs, this Sunday edition provides entertainment of the highest quality for our readers. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung went online in January 2001, when it started publication of a daily online edition of its newspaper.

I have just read and digested your collaboration with the IIJ and the conference on New Media. I will like to explore possibilities of collaborating with you on the idea of Pan-African Reporters’ Initiative that will facilitate the capacity of Reporters on the continent to move around in pursuit of stories about the continent. I think African media need to start telling their own stories to Africans in their own way.
